Second Annual Meeting of Thailand Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (TCISTP) August 17, 2010

         TCISTP aims to create a network of national and international specialists to further the sharing of knowledge and promote effective collaboration in tropical pediatrics. In this year, dengue infection is the main topic of meeting. The participant will gain update, comprehensive knowledge and experience about dengue infection.

 Brief report on the First Annual Meeting of Thailand Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (TCISTP) August 26, 2009

         The First Annual Meeting of Thailand Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics organized by Thailand Chapter of the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics (TCISTP) at the Lecture room, 3rd floor, Chamlong Harinasuta Building, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, August 26, 2009. The distinguished speakers were invited in the symposium on “What’s New on Seasonal/Avian/Pandemic Influenza?” with Prof. Usa Thisyakorn being a moderator. Dr. Jens Levy gave a talk on “Burden of Influenza” when Dr. Kumnuan Ungchusak spoke about “Epidemiology of Influenza” and Assoc. Prof. Tawee Chotpitayasunondh presented about “Clinical Management of Influenza” in the symposium. There were 59 participants from several countries mainly from Asia.

         The First Annual Meeting of TCISTP 2009 highlights the burden of influenza and how to control and stop the pandemic influenza. There were 6 oral free-paper presentations from 4 Thai and 2 Laotian Pediatricians. Dr. Woraman Waidab received the best presentation award with the title “IL8, IL-1β and MMP-9 related gene expression in the peripheral blood and severity of dengue virus infection”. There were also 2 poster presentations participated. This First Annual Meeting of TCISTP 2009 was successful in sharing the expertise, knowledge and friendships among the participants and we would like to continue the annual meeting next year.
